HISTORY
The history of SMF begins in 1985
In 1985, the IT world still looked like this: E-mails were called letters and cost 50 pfennigs, typing was done on an electric typewriter and telephones were not mobile. It was at this time that three young computer scientists decided to take the step into self-employment.
Diethard Feuerstein founded his own company, today’s SMF GmbH, together with his wife Angela Feuerstein and brother-in-law Walter Müller. Since its foundation, the company has been on the market for more than three decades and will remain in family hands in the future.
Our history
With Henrike Simbach and Wieland Feuerstein, the next generation is already in the starting blocks and will continue to follow the company’s motto: ‘know the existing, master the current and plan for the future’.
The history of SMF is characterised by milestones that show how the first ‘company headquarters’ in the converted attic became a successful IT company.
1985
Foundation of Systemberatung Müller & Feuerstein SMF GmbH by Angela and Diethard Feuerstein and Walter Müller. Sector focus on Industry & Oil.
1990
Thomas Engels replaces Walter Müller as Managing Partner. Development of the Finance division.
1995
Restructuring and change of legal form to Systemberatung Müller & Feuerstein SMF KG.
1998
Development of the CRM solution “ProfitSystem”. Outsourced to merkarion GmbH in the following years. 2004: Further specialization in banking, insurance, trade and the manufacturing industry.
2011
Foundation of the joint venture SMF IT-Partner d.o.o. in Belgrade for the development of the Central and Eastern European business. More than 100 employees work for the company.
2012
SMF establishes a new company headquarters at PHOENIX West, the area for IT and technology companies in Dortmund.
2014
Henrike Simbach and Wieland Feuerstein, the children of Angela and Diethard Feuerstein, join the company.
2019
With the founding of the subsidiary, SMF Poland takes over the local support for greater proximity to customers.
2020
Diethard Feuerstein steps down as Managing Director. Henrike Simbach, Wieland Feuerstein, Christoph Laarmann and Engelbert Turczyk are new to the Management Board.
2021
SMF integrates the software company W3L AG and changes its legal form to a GmbH. Expansion of focus to the public sector.
2023
Over 200 employees work for the company. Thomas Engels steps down as Managing Director.
2023
SMF acquires the location-aware provider INDUTRAX and integrates the company.
2025
For 40 years, SMF has stood for innovation, reliability and strong partnerships.
